Ending weeks of speculation, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) has confirmed the visit of National General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee to Kumarganj in South Dinajpur. The high-profile visit, scheduled for January 7, 2026, aims to address growing public anxiety regarding the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process of the electoral rolls.

Senior Trinamool Congress leader and noted advocate Subhash Chaki said the visit would extend beyond political programming. According to him, Mr.Abhisek  Banerjee intends to listen closely to the psychological distress genuine voters are experiencing due to the SIR process and has expressed a desire to engage personally with those who feel deprived or marginalized despite being Indian citizens.

Mr. Abhisek Banerjee is expected to meet around 500 individuals whose names have appeared in SIR hearings and later visit Osman Mondal’s family before proceeding to Itahar. As January 7 approaches, Kumarganj waits — caught between grief, fear and political expectation. He also said-

"Mr. Banerjee wants to engage personally with those who feel marginalized or deprived of their rights despite being valid Indian citizens,"

Ganesh Das, the TMC Kumarganj Block President, announced on Saturday that Mr. Banerjee is expected to arrive by helicopter at approximately 11:30 a.m. at the Dangarhat High School ground. Following his primary engagement, he is scheduled to visit the family of Osman Mondal before proceeding to Itahar in North Dinajpur.

Hence, On Monday, November 10, 2025, Osman Mondal of Agacha village in the Dangarhat area under Kumarganj block allegedly died by suicide. Family members say he had been under severe mental distress due to discrepancies in his identity documents — a fear they believe ultimately drove him to take the extreme step.
