Parents, Teachers Complain to District Magistrate Over Poor-Quality School Uniforms

Serious allegations have surfaced regarding the supply of substandard school uniforms at a government primary school in Patiram. Parents and teachers of Atoir FP (Primary) School jointly submitted a written complaint to the District Magistrate, accusing a self-help group of providing low-quality uniforms made of polyester fabric instead of cotton.According to the complaint, the uniforms were supplied by Jashoda Rani Sangha Bahumukhi Samabay Samiti Limited, a self-help group entrusted with the task. Guardians alleged that the polyester fabric is unsuitable for children, especially during the summer months, as it causes extreme discomfort and could adversely affect students’ health. As a result, parents refused to accept the uniforms.The complainants further alleged that the leader of the self-help group misbehaved with the school’s Teacher-in-Charge, leading to chaos and disorder on the school premises. Parents and teachers have demanded immediate intervention to ensure the supply of proper, good-quality cotton uniforms and the appointment of an alternative, reliable self-help group for the task.

Atoir Primary School, under Patiram Police Station, currently has 84 students and is managed by three teachers. The school’s Teacher-in-Charge is Bratin Roy. From the very beginning, the distribution of uniforms triggered controversy, eventually leading to unrest within the school campus.Guardians such as Tultuli Halder and Chaina Karmakar stated that the uniforms provided were of extremely poor quality and demanded their immediate replacement with cotton uniforms suitable for young children.

Teacher-in-Charge Bratin Roy confirmed that parents had refused to accept the uniforms from the outset, citing poor fabric quality and the use of polyester. He added that, following the parents’ concerns, the matter was formally reported in writing to the District Magistrate.District Magistrate Bala Subramanian T. has assured that the issue will be thoroughly examined after receiving the complaint.
