A group of security guards employed under the Public Health Engineering (P.H.E.) Department in South Dinajpur district have gone on strike, alleging that they have not received their salaries for nearly 11 months.

The workers announced their work stoppage with a large banner displayed outside a government office in Balurghat, drawing attention from local residents and passersby. Organized under the banner of “All P.H.E. Security Guard,” the protesters are demanding immediate payment of their outstanding wages and assurances of regular salary disbursement in the future.According to the workers, repeated appeals to department officials have gone unanswered. “We continued working for months without pay, hoping the issue would be resolved,” said one protester. “Now we have no choice but to take this step to claim what is rightfully ours.”

Many of the guards say they are facing severe financial distress as a result of the prolonged delay. Despite the visibility of the protest, no official response has yet been issued by the administration, and it remains unclear how many workers are participating or how essential services may be affected. The situation in Balurghat, they argue, reflects a broader and persistent problem. The protesters have stated that the strike will continue until their demands are met, raising concerns that the disruption could deepen in the coming days.
