Organizers had made extensive arrangements at the Harirampur High School grounds, including constructing a stage and setting up seating for attendees. The venue had taken on a festive atmosphere, with temporary stalls and large crowds gathering well ahead of the scheduled program. However, despite the groundwork, the rally was called off after it emerged that the necessary clearance for helicopter landing at the makeshift helipad had not been secured. Officials also raised safety concerns, citing the densely populated surroundings near the designated landing area.

According to sources, BJP leaders were unable to arrange an alternative landing site within the limited time available. A backup plan to have Mithun Chakraborty land in Malda and travel by road to Harirampur was also abandoned due to time constraints. The sudden cancellation sparked anger and disappointment among party workers and supporters, many of whom had traveled long distances to attend the rally. The incident has also triggered criticism within political circles, with questions being raised about organizational lapses at a crucial juncture ahead of the elections.
