In a notable political development ahead of the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections, a total of 63 voters from West Mandapara village under the 1 No. Gram Panchayat of Tapan Block in Gangarampur Assembly  constituency have reportedly left the Trinamool Congress (TMC) and joined the Communist Party of India (Marxist), or CPI(M).

Local sources indicate that the shift reflects growing political realignment at the grassroots level in parts of Dakshin Dinajpur district. The joining event was attended by CPI(M) local leadership, who welcomed the new members and expressed confidence in strengthening their organizational base in the region.

The defectors cited dissatisfaction with local governance and a desire for change as key reasons behind their decision. CPI(M) leaders, on the other hand, described the development as a positive signal in the run-up to the 2026 elections, suggesting that more such shifts could follow in the coming months.

Meanwhile, representatives of the TMC have downplayed the impact of the defection, asserting that the party continues to enjoy strong support in the area.As political activities intensify ahead of the elections, such developments are likely to influence the dynamics of voter sentiment in rural constituencies across the state.
