Marking the final day of the annual municipal flower fair, the Balurghat Municipality organized a colorful road race on Sunday morning that brought together athletes, officials and cheering residents along a 14-kilometer stretch of road.
The race began at Tior Prachi Sangha in the Hili block and ended at Suresh Ranjan Park in Balurghat. A total of 170 competitors took part, including 140 men and 30 women.Municipal leaders were present at the starting point in Tior to encourage the runners. Among them were the municipality’s chairman, Surajit Saha; vice chairperson Munmun Kar; and councilors including Pallab Das and Subinoy Acharya, along with other dignitaries.
Spectators lined both sides of the route, applauding and urging on participants as they made their way toward the finish, adding to the festive mood that has come to define the fair each year.
At the conclusion of the event, Mr. Saha said the road race had become an integral part of the celebrations surrounding the flower fair and expressed satisfaction with the strong turnout of participants.
