In a striking act of compassion, Soham Chowdhury, the Block Development Officer (BDO) of Balurghat, voluntarily donated blood to help save the life of a young girl suffering from thalassemia.

According to local sources, the child urgently required B-positive blood. Upon learning about the situation, Soham Chowdhury wasted no time and went to the local blood bank in Balurghat to donate blood.

Speaking about the incident, Mr.Chowdhury emphasized the humanitarian value of blood donation. “Donating blood means giving life,” he said. “Today I may be sitting in the chair of a BDO, but if that chair is removed, I am just an ordinary person. When I heard that a little girl needed B-positive blood and that my blood group matched, I immediately went to the Balurghat Blood Bank and donated.”

He also addressed the common fears people have about donating blood. “Many people are afraid of blood donation, and even members of my own family are not free from that fear. But I want to appeal to everyone to overcome this hesitation and come forward to help meet the shortage of blood in society,” he said.

Mr.Chowdhury added that blood cannot be bought in a market and ultimately comes from one person to save another. He expressed satisfaction that his donation could help the young girl in need.

The incident has drawn appreciation from residents, who see it as an example of how public officials can set a humanitarian example beyond their administrative responsibilities.
