- Midnight Heist Thwarted: Police Trace Stolen 10-Wheeler in Record Time

In a display of swift and coordinated policing, officers from Hili Police Station recovered a stolen 10-wheeler truck and arrested the accused within 24 hours of the crime, underscoring the effectiveness of rapid inter-district law enforcement action.

The theft took place late Wednesday night in the Purba Raynagar area under Hili Police Station. A 10-wheel lorry was stolen, prompting the owner to file a complaint at Hili Police Station on Thursday afternoon. Acting immediately, the police launched an investigation and began tracking the vehicle’s movement.
By Friday morning, investigators received a crucial lead on the whereabouts of the stolen truck. A police team conducted a raid in Tungidighi, under Karandighi Police Station in North Dinajpur district. During the operation, officers recovered the stolen lorry and arrested the accused on the spot. Both the vehicle and the accused were brought back to Hili Police Station the same night.
The arrested man has been identified as Pramod Mondal (37), a resident of Madhapara in the Sreerampur area of Hooghly district. According to police sources, Pramod Mondal had traveled from Hooghly to Hili to conduct reconnaissance before committing the theft. After stealing the lorry, he drove it to the Tungidighi area in an attempt to dismantle and conceal the vehicle.
Investigators revealed that the accused had removed two wheels from the stolen truck and fitted them onto another lorry. Police also seized this second vehicle from the same location, further strengthening the case.
On Saturday afternoon, the accused was produced before the Balurghat court. The investigating officer sought a 10-day police remand to facilitate further interrogation and to determine whether a larger vehicle theft network is involved.
Bikram Prasad-DSP(HQ), a Senior police official of Dakshin Dinajpur praised the prompt coordination between police stations across districts, describing the operation as an example of effective crime response and professional investigation.The case remains under active investigation.
