One of Balurghat’s most storied sporting institutions, the Netaji Sporting Club, is set to celebrate its 75th anniversary with a blend of pageantry, sports, culture and social service, club officials announced on Friday at a press conference.
To commemorate the milestone, the club will organize a colorful procession on Sunday, Jan. 11, beginning in the afternoon from Deepali Nagar Maidan. Club members and well-wishers will take part in the rally, which will traverse key areas of the town, marking the start of a yearlong celebration.
The anniversary celebrations will extend well beyond a single day. According to the club, the diamond jubilee year will feature a series of sporting tournaments, cultural programs and a wide range of social initiatives aimed at community welfare.
The formal launch of the 75th anniversary logo took place on Friday afternoon at the club premises, in the presence of journalists from across South Dinajpur district. The logo was unveiled by Bikram Prasad, Deputy Superintendent of Police (Headquarters), South Dinajpur, alongside club members and supporters.
Addressing the media, Bhavendu Bhattacharya, a key organizer of the club’s 75th anniversary committee, outlined an ambitious vision for the year. “Our aim is not only to celebrate 75 years of sporting excellence, but also to give back to society in a meaningful way,” he said.
As part of its social outreach, the club plans to organize cancer detection camps, with a special focus on women’s health. In cases where cancer is detected among economically disadvantaged women, the club has pledged to assist with free surgical treatment. The club also announced plans to support meritorious but underprivileged students in pursuing higher education.
Founded 75 years ago, Netaji Sporting Club has long been a pillar of Balurghat’s sporting and cultural life. This anniversary, organizers say, is intended not just as a celebration of the past, but as a renewed commitment to service, inclusivity and community development in the years ahead.
