A one-day training camp on Solid Waste Management (SWM) and Plastic Waste Management was held today at the Balurghat Panchayat Samiti conference hall, bringing together local representatives and officials to strengthen grassroots efforts toward sustainable waste practices.
The primary focus of the camp was the proper segregation and effective utilization of biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste, with special emphasis on keeping waste management units operational within Gram Panchayats. Speakers highlighted how structured waste processing can not only improve cleanliness but also create commercial and livelihood opportunities at the local level.
Through targeted training sessions, the program aimed to raise public awareness about cleanliness, environmental responsibility, and the economic potential of waste recycling. Detailed discussions were held on recycling methods, reuse of plastic and other waste materials, and the harmful impact of unmanaged waste on health and the environment.
District- and state-level trainers led in-depth sessions, explaining how waste materials can be processed, reused, and integrated into public welfare initiatives. The workshop underscored the importance of community participation, technical training, and sustained awareness in building a cleaner, more resilient rural ecosystem.
The event marked another step toward aligning local governance with broader environmental goals—where waste is no longer seen as a burden, but as a resource waiting to be responsibly managed.
