In a ceremony marked by devotion, tradition and large public participation, the idol of Lord Chanchalnath Shiva was formally installed on Monday at the newly constructed Shiva temple within the historic Chanchala Kali Temple complex in Balurghat’s Hossenpur Chakbakhar area.The Chanchala Kali Temple, believed to be more than 300 years old, witnessed a significant addition to its sacred premises with the consecration of Chanchalnath Shiva. The rituals were conducted with full Vedic rites by renowned priest Mrityunjay Mukherjee from Tarakeswar, assisted by a team of priests.
Religious observances began the previous night with adhivas and special prayers. On Monday morning, local women devotees carried holy water from the Atreyee River for the mahabhishek of the deity. This was followed by Rudrabhishek, elaborate decoration of the idol, bhog offerings, and a sacred havan.To mark the occasion, the Balurghat Shri Shri Chanchala Kali Mata Puja Committee organized a massive community feast. Nearly 10,000 devotees were served khichuri(hotchpotch) mahaprasad within the temple premises , while additional portions were distributed among visitors.
The ceremony drew a large gathering of local residents, transforming the temple area into a festive space filled with religious fervor and communal harmony. Organizers said the installation of Chanchalnath Shiva has further strengthened the spiritual significance of the centuries-old shrine for the people of Balurghat and surrounding regions.
