The POCSO Special Court in Balurghat on Wednesday delivered its verdict in a case involving the harassment of a minor girl, holding a 23-year-old married man guilty of teasing a Class VI student.According to court sources, the incident took place on July 20, 2023. Following a complaint lodged by the victim’s family, a case was registered at Balurghat Police Station on the same day. After completion of the investigation, the matter was placed before the POCSO Special Court.Pronouncing the sentence, POCSO Special Court Judge Saranya Sen Prasad awarded the convict 15 days of simple imprisonment along with a fine of ₹300. The court further directed that in case of failure to pay the fine, the accused would have to undergo an additional 10 days of simple imprisonment.

Public Prosecutor Ritabrata Chakraborty, representing the state, said that laws meant to protect minors are being strictly enforced and that courts are delivering deterrent punishments in such cases.The verdict sends a strong social message that harassment of minors will not be tolerated under any circumstances. Legal action under the POCSO Act aims not only to punish offenders but also to ensure the safety, dignity, and rights of children. Society, law enforcement agencies, and families must remain vigilant and united to create a secure environment where children can grow without fear.
