The 140th Foundation Day of the Indian National Congress was observed with due dignity and ceremonial fervour at the District Congress Bhavan in Balurghat on Sunday. The programme commenced with the hoisting of the party flag and the offering of floral tributes, led by Dakshin Dinajpur District Congress President Gopal Deb, in the presence of senior district leaders and party officials.Marking the historic occasion, a large number of Congress workers from various parts of Dakshin Dinajpur district gathered at the Congress Bhavan, turning the celebration into a significant show of strength and solidarity. The enthusiastic turnout resonated with slogans and assertions reaffirming the party’s ideological resolve.

Several party workers, speaking amid the gathering, strongly countered claims that the Congress had become politically irrelevant. “Those who say the Congress is finished must remember that democracy in this country survives because the backbone of the Congress still stands firm,” some workers remarked. They further asserted that the Congress has never compromised on its principles and vowed that it would continue to uphold its values in the future.

Addressing the occasion, District Congress President Gopal Deb stated that the party’s foundation day was being celebrated with full respect and organizational discipline. He added that the leadership would hold an important organizational meeting later in the day with district-level office bearers to discuss key party matters.Gopal Deb also informed that deliberations would include discussions on the proposed visit of central Congress leaders to the district and the strategic decisions to be taken in this regard. “Strengthening the organization at the grassroots remains our priority,” he emphasized.

The event not only commemorated the party’s 140-year-long legacy but also reflected renewed enthusiasm among Congress cadres in Balurghat, signaling the party’s intent to reinforce its presence and political relevance in the district.
