The 41st Annual Sports Meet of Primary, Junior Basic, Madrasa and Shishu Shiksha Centres under the Balurghat Sub-Division of South Dinajpur district was conducted with grandeur, discipline and competitive fervour at the Par-Patiram Football Ground. The event stood as a resounding celebration of physical education, youthful resilience and the indomitable spirit of sportsmanship.
Inauguration Ceremony
The meticulously structured inaugural ceremony commenced with the formal reception of the Chairman D.P.S.C Dakshin Dinajpur and distinguished dignitaries, followed by the hoisting of the National Flag, the collective athletes’ oath, a ceremonial march-past, the symbolic release of doves as messengers of peace, and the lighting of the sacred torch (cauldron). The sequence concluded with a dignified parade and the ceremonial installation of the flame, creating a solemn yet inspiring atmosphere that set the tone for the competition.
Among the eminent personalities present were Santosh Hansda, Chairman of the District Primary School Council (DPSC), Chintamani Biha- Sabhadhipati of the South Dinajpur Zilla Parishad, Abul Hasan-District Inspector of Schools, Mofizuddin Mia- RTO Board Member, noted social worker Mrinal Sarkar, senior advocate Subhash Chaki, and social activist Pritam Ram Mondal. A large number of teachers, guardians and educationists from across the Balurghat subdivision also graced the occasion.
Despite significant administrative constraints and the engagement of a majority of district teachers in SIR-related duties, the event was executed with exceptional precision. The relentless dedication and organisational acumen of Biswajit Mohanta and Gautam Sarkar, Joint Secretaries of the Balurghat Sub-Divisional Sports Committee, transformed the meet into a vibrant and well-coordinated spectacle. The aesthetic field decorations and disciplined arrangements drew widespread appreciation.Addressing the gathering, DPSC Chairman Santosh Hansda announced that the District-Level Sports Meet will be held on December 30 and 31 at Gangarampur Stadium. He expressed unwavering confidence that the district competition would be conducted successfully and asserted that South Dinajpur’s young athletes possess the calibre and conviction to excel at the state-level sports meets, thereby bringing laurels to the district.Beyond medals and rankings, the sports meet underscored a deeper purpose—the holistic development of students through physical endurance, mental fortitude, discipline and teamwork. Sporting platforms such as this not only identify latent talent but also instil values of perseverance, fair play and self-belief.As the cheers echoed across the field and young athletes pushed their limits, the event reaffirmed an enduring truth: sports are not merely contests of strength, but crucibles that forge character and future champions. With sustained encouragement and institutional support, these budding sportspersons hold the promise of elevating both the district and the state on larger competitive stages in the years to come.
